PROS:

  • The sound is easy to adjust

CONS:

  • Some users find the background noise reduction feature doesn’t work that well

SUMMARY: This hearing amplifier is designed for people with mild to moderate hearing loss (hearing loss level from 25-70 dbs). Its big selling features are the fact that it is rechargeable, it works well for most users and the company that makes it appears to have exceptional support for the amplifier.  The price is very reasonable; it retails for less than $130, which is an excellent price for an amplifier of this sound quality.

Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of good quality, rechargeable hearing amplifiers on the market. One that is gaining in popularity recently is the Banglijian Hearing Amplifier Rechargeable Ziv-201A. It was released early 2017 by a Chinese company Banglijian. Banglijian is based in China but has a number of different amplifier models that it sells on the Amazon USA marketplace. They don’t have much of a presence in the U.S, other than on Amazon. There is no website, but the company is apparently very good at customer support if an issue arises with their products.

The Ziv-201A is well worth a look since it’s hard to find good rechargeable amplifiers. If you have ever had to deal with the tiny hearing aid batteries that run most hearing aids and amplifiers, you will understand the benefits of a decent rechargeable device.

Comfort

For those who are new to wearing hearing aid devices or amplifiers, you need to be aware that there is an adjustment period that you have to go through before your brain and your ears can adjust to the device. It can be a very uncomfortable feeling having something you aren’t used to in your ear. The manufacturer of the Banglijian amplifier recommends that you give yourself to 20 to 30 days to get used to their device. I would consider that perhaps a little high, but you will need at least a few weeks to adjust.

The size and comfort level appears to be comparable with other BTE amplifiers. You have to do a little bit of setup and adjustment when you first get the device. It comes with 3 sizes of domes, so you will also need to play around with those to make sure you have the right size in your ear canal. If you aren’t wearing the right size domes, it leads to problems with the sound, and ultimately you will probably find that it isn’t really working for you. This amplifier is pretty discreet looking, and you can wear it comfortably with glasses on.

Sound Quality

The Ziv-201 appears to work best for having conversations and watching TV; most users find that the sound is amplified well without any distortion. The device does come with a noise reduction feature that would generally be used in noisy situations like a restaurant or a mall, somewhere that there is a lot of background noise,  but some users mention that it doesn’t work as well as expected.  Some reviewers also note that as the battery is getting low, the sound quality starts to deteriorate, which can be inconvenient but for the price of the device it shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for anyone who is interested in this model.

Warranty

The  Ziv-201 comes with a one year warranty and a 60-day hassle-free return policy.

Help and Support

Banglijian offers support through its Amazon sellers page.  Many reviewers have commented on the excellent customer support that they have gotten after purchasing the amplifier. The company sends a follow-up after you have received the device to ensure you aren’t having any issues with the product.

Sound Customization

This amplifier offers two levels of operation: a quiet or a noisy mode, with 5 volume adjustments at each level. Programming and setting the volume are very easy to do. If you find that you are getting feedback noise, the user guide recommends different adjustments you can make to either the earplug or the sound tubes to improve the sound.

Battery Life

The Ziv-201 runs on a rechargeable built-in lithium battery. You charge the battery with a USB cable and a power adapter that comes when the product is shipped. It means that you do not have to buy extra batteries for this device.  The battery can be fully charged in about 2 hours, and that charge should last for around 20-24 hours continuously after fully charged. The battery life is approximately 3-5 years.

Overall

If you are looking for a moderately priced, rechargeable amplifier that will amplify the sounds around you, especially conversations and TV shows, the  Ziv-201A is definitely a model to check out. It has a 60-day return policy so you can try it out and return if it isn’t right for you. Over the last few years, we have had great feedback from readers about the quality and usefulness of this device, it is highly recommended especially for a first amplifier.
